Annual Meeting of the Society for Free Radical Research (Australasia)
On behalf of the Local Organising Committee, I would like to welcome you from the bottom of my heart at the 24th Annual Meeting of the Society for Free Radical Research (Australasia) that will be held this year at the Gold Coast Campus of the Griffith University, on December 5-7, 2016.
The site of the Annual Meeting is snugly wedged between pristine beaches of the Pacific Ocean and World Heritage Leamington National Park that abounds in natural wonders of subtropical rainforest.
Since the last SFRR(A) conference on the Gold Coast in 2005, the Griffith University campus underwent a radical facelift, with state-of-the-art Health Precinct and the adjoining Gold Coast University Hospital, consistent with the Gold Coast strip being the most dynamically developing region of Australia.
This year, the theme of the conference is centered on major pathologies that all involve a role for free radicals one way or another. These include, but are not limited to neoplastic diseases, cardiovascular and metabolic pathologies, myopathies, as well as neurodegenerative and mitochondrial diseases. Of course, we will include a section on the chemistry and biology of free radicals.
Our line-up of speakers is shaping up nicely and, together with the 'usual suspects' from the SFRR(A) members plus 'new kids on the block', the 2016 meeting promises to be of high standard. Please, do join the organisers in making the Annual conference a great success!
